This cocktail has been around almost as long as American Football. For people not fond of whiskey, the Smash is a great gateway drink to try. It actually works amazingly well with any spirit. We have two recipes tailored to the teams in the game. Let's look at our starting lineups.
The Philly Smash
The Philly Smash is a fruity smash with a touch of the Italian liqueur Averna.
1 1/2 oz. rye whiskey
1/2 oz. Averna
1/4 oz. lime
1/4 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
4 fresh, seasonal berries
Garnish: skewed raspberry, 2 drops of mezcal
In an Old Fashioned glass, muddle berries with simple syrup. Add remaining ingredients, pack glass with crushed ice, give a quick stir and garnish.

2 oz. Your favorite bourbon
1 oz. simple syrup
5 mint leaves
1/2 lemon, cut into quarters
Mint sprig, for garnish
Directions: Muddle mint, lemon, and syrup in a mixing glass. Add the bourbon and dry shake. Strain into a double old-fashioned glass over a tea strainer, making sure to squeeze the remaining liquid from the pulp into the glass. Fill with crushed ice and garnish with mint sprig.
